All the Little Details.......
Please, please tell us...
What do we wear?
For awesomely, wonderful photo shoots?
When it comes to Photo Sessions, clients ask me all the time, "what do you suggest we wear?"
So... I decided to put together a few ideas and thoughts, along with some
images that might help you plan your family or other portrait session a little bit better.
But Be sure to contact me if you have any questions at all!
Coordination~
When it comes to coordinating your clothing choices... you do not want to be ALL matching in style or color...
you do, however, want to coordinate and compliment your clothing choices. Think about where your shoot will take place...
is it colorful? Then maybe stick with lighter color choices. Is it a softer neutral palate? Then maybe throw a few
splashes of bold color in there to compliment the other softer colors.
Love the mix of soft and
bold colors and patterns
against the soft
background in the first
image... the bold black and red
against a pale background... beautiful!
Check out the little flecks of bright yellow in the bottom photo
and how they make the grey and black pop!
~Complementing
You want to make sure that, more than trying to "match" each other... you are trying to "compliment each other."
Take bits and pieces of color from each other and pull them all together throughout each outfit. It's always a great idea to choose a
"Rock Star" out of the bunch... the one who carries the main color and style theme throughout their outfit and then
have the others pull a color from them, accenting with scarves, headbands, etc with that color.
Patterns and Colors~
When picking patterns, choose smaller ones that won’t distract attention away from the
main subject/s. Use patterns sparingly…. if one person is wearing a print, try to avoid
putting someone else in a competing pattern. When thinking about texture, choose different
ones that will give photos some interest such as lace, corduroy, denim, etc. Avoid large logo’s,
emblems and graphics like “GAP” and “Old Navy” because again, these will typically distract
attention away from the subject. We want your faces and emotion to show, not logos. :)
Be Timeless~
For some of you that might be difficult... but choose outfits that will basically stand the test
of time. MC Hammer Pants were cool in the 80's... but they didn't stand the test of time. :) One
example of something that is timeless is jeans... you can develop a classic personal look complementing something like jeans!
~Shine, Shine, Shine!
The most important thing in photography is to be yourself! Dressing in uncomfortable clothing that is not typically yours or your child's style, is not going to reflect yours or your child's personality. If it means letting your child pick out their own outfit and you coordinating with them...
well sometimes it just works out cuter that way!
Be Prepared!~
This is the single most important tip I can give you... Be Prepared!!!
Weather can change... babies can puke and toddlers can get downright fussy! :)
Bring extra outfits... bring layers, like sweaters and scarves and mittens and things that compliment the color theme
that "may or may not" be used... depending on inclement weather or "whatever." Bring blankets and snacks and favorite toys.... and if there is something that you know for sure will make your baby smile... bring it along!
